June 2017 - Theme 'Business in the Community' at the Crown and Mitre.

Carlisle-Ambassadors-Meeting-June-2017

BUSINESS IN THE COMMUNITY

Great meeting was held at newly and extremely well refurbished Crown and Mitre in Carlisle in June 2017. Thank you to David Crossley and his team for looking after us so well.
The theme was Business in the Community, and we had many showcases at the venue as well as great speakers.
Katie Harper of BITC inspired us about the work that she has been doing whilst on secondment from United Utilities, involving many more businesses in to work with community and schools. Tangible results, and great plans for the future.

Sara Oldham and Jade Carson from CFM Cash for Kids explained just what a difference they make to those kids who are absolutely in need of help in the city and surrounds. Sara told us of one who had written to them recently – we think it is worth repeating here:
"Each year CFM Cash for Kids reaches into the darkest corners and turns on the lights. With your help we can light up the lives of even more disadvantaged children in our area. Your effort can turn tears into laughter, your generosity can rescue dignity from despair and your support can break down barriers to create a brighter future for all young people".

Jane Meek, Corporate Director of Economic Development, gave a really informative and useful round up of opportunities in Carlisle city, including funding projects, economic strategies, public realm and ways to collaborate between public and private sector.

Colin Aimers spoke about the progress being made on managing Carlisle Ambassadors' projects. This is something that has been worked on in the background for some time, in order to ensure that all the ideas that have been mooted in the last two years are considered properly by a project group, and that we have an effective process going forward. Colin is spearheading a working group, and there will be an update from workshop to follow shortly.
