Cumbria Community Foundation

Cumbria is a wonderful place to live, work and visit.  However for many people life can be hard. We connect people who care with causes that matter and exist to tackle poverty and disadvantage. We do this by improving the quality of community life for the people of Cumbria by; promoting local philanthropy and working in partnership with individuals, families and organisations to meet community need in the county. We have a broad and inclusive view of what community is and we provide investment to support a wide range of initiatives throughout the county.

Cumbria is very fortunate in that it has one of the highest levels of volunteering in the UK, something we can be justly proud of. There are over 6,000 charitable, community and voluntary organisations active in the county. We have supported 4,000 groups and 3,000 individuals since we started in 1999, so far investing £25m in grant awards. In 2014/15 alone we awarded £2.4m in grant aid. In 2015 we won a national charity award for our grant making and funding.

We are proud of our achievements but we could not have done this without our fundholders and those who give us money. We offer a bespoke service to those just setting outon their philanthropic journey, connecting them with inspirational, life changing projects which address key issues in our communities.

One of our main aims is to build our long term funds which currently stand at £14m. By building long term funds, we ensure that money is always available to communities. We also manage funds that are responding to immediate need and for the last five years we have run our Winter Warmth Appeal, raising more than £300,000 to address the needs of 2,500 older people living in fuel poverty.
